Hello LockTrippers, i want to present one of my strategies here. Its about to introducing LockTrip and the affiliate marketing program to YouTubers or influencers. Iam already following a few travel related groups on different social media platfroms, where a few of the members regulary post some vlogs and share them with the group. Iam trying to contact them and ask them if they are interested to become a LockTrip affiliate after introducing and providing them with informations. I succsesfully could get the attention of a youtuber already. She is just at the beginning (about 1000 subs) of her youtube carreer but i think she make a really good job and fit perfectly with the content which she produce. And with the support of LockTrip´s affiliate program she can get even better. She worked as a hotel director before so she´s well informed about this business. She even could be a perfect candidate to onboard hotels directly through her connections that she has in the hotel business. Let´s see how well this strategy works out :)
There are two options in my mind:
1.Pay them directly for the promotion/reviewe video and let them add my own affiliate link/secret code
2.Let them register through my link and just get the level2 comission
In my case from above i let her sign up through my link. I think this will have a bigger impact on her motivation. She´ll also gets her own experience with the platform and get her own impression how amazing LockTrip is and how much money EVERYONE can save.
Not sure about the budged yet, it actually depend on the youtubers how much they will charge for the video/content and to add my own link. i guess it can vary a lot.
0$ budged if you´re happy just with the level2 comission, you just need to convience them about this great opportuntity to earn 3% comission.
Or give them a kickstart and offer them to book the hotel that gets reviewed (like i did in my case)
What are your thoughts? Let me know :)
Nice idea man.
Influencers are a good move.
In my humble opinion, you have a lot of changes to convince them with both methods.
My guess is that if you say to one with 50,000 followers they will accept option two.
For one with 1000 followers, it can be easier to pay directly because they need the money more than the one with 50,000 followers.
Have in mind that you are a sell man and it is up to you and how you approach them will the key to what you will sell.(option one or two)
I love how you got her on board. (By offering a stay at a place to review) Amazing, I would not have thought of this. Love it! About what strategy to use. Florians answer makes sense to me.
The core difference between the two options is basically who carries the risk of the campaign.
Option 1 means you are taking the risk on your behalf. The video creator will profit from your payment regardless of how effective the campaign turns out to be. You will enjoy a 3% revenue for the risk you have taken.
Option 2 means the video ceator takes the risk. She will only be compensated if the campaign turns out to be effective. As a consequence, she will receive the lion's share of the revenue.
Given that you have no data to work with yet, it might be best for you to start multiple experiments (spread across multiple channels) with option 2. This will allow you to gather data at no cost.
Once you have insights into the effectiveness, you can proceed with option 1 in a much more informed manner. Since you will be able to estimate your revenue for a given youtube channel, you will be in the position to approach channels with fixed-price proposals.
Hint: It will probably be a bit more difficult to find video creators who want to work according to option 2. So don't be discouraged if some turn down your offer. You may re-approach them with an option 1 proposal at a later stage.
Great job Ed Di. I think the second option is much more motivating for them, on a continuing basis. Once you explain to them how the affiliate program works, I think such people will understand the benefits of becoming an affiliate and sharing their own link, rather than advertising someone else's. It will increase their motivation to continuously promote LockTrip too!
@Ed Di I like this idea a lot ! I'm right now at the moment working on a strategy to partner up with Twitch travel streamers and get them onboard of the Affiliate program. In my opinion there is soo much potential as you pointed it out already as you mentioned that she's a ex-Hotel manager and has her own connections ... alone this one influencer can be a game changer for the word of mouth for LockTrip! Keep it up and do not give up buddy ... when there is something new ... I would be really interested what you will share about your own experiences and advises in the future ! Best regards from Austria
